Trump's Big Beautiful Bill Faces Backlash After One Year

One year after Donald Trump and congressional Republicans enacted the One, Big Beautiful Bill Act on July 4, 2025, the legislation has faced significant public unpopularity. The law provided $30 billion in tax benefits to major corporations and substantial tax breaks for high-income earners, while implementing deep cuts to healthcare and food assistance. The Republican Party has since rebranded the legislation as the Working Families Tax Cuts.

Financial analysis from the Congressional Budget Office indicates the law resulted in an average annual loss of $1,200 for low-income households, while high-income households saw an average gain of $13,600. These changes have contributed trillions to the national debt. Additionally, corporations that received the tax benefits have reportedly cut nearly 45,000 jobs.

The legislation mandated between $990 billion and $1 trillion in cuts to Medicaid over a decade. Public Citizen reports that these funding reductions have placed 446 hospitals at risk of closing or reducing services, a situation that impacts approximately 7 million patients.
