Nyesom Wike Backs Tinubu and Attacks Atiku in Rivers State

Minister Nyesom Wike declared Rivers State's support for President Bola Tinubu while accusing Atiku Abubakar of being a political gambler who would sell Nigeria.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike declared that residents of Rivers State have agreed to vote for President Bola Tinubu in the January 2027 presidential election. Speaking at a campaign rally at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, Wike attributed this support to federal projects, including the Federal University of Environment in Ogoniland and the Bonny-Bodo Road, as well as 47 political appointments for state indigenes.

During a Rainbow Coalition town hall meeting in Asari-Toru on November 7, Wike attacked former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, calling him a "political gambler." Wike alleged that Abubakar sold national assets while supervising the privatization program under former President Olusegun Obasanjo and claimed that if elected, Abubakar would sell the country to recover his political investments.

Wike also defended President Tinubu's removal of the fuel subsidy, arguing the policy increased revenue for state and local governments to pay salaries and pensions. Additionally, Wike challenged former governor and vice-presidential candidate Rotimi Amaechi to account for spending during his administration, specifically regarding a state-wide fumigation exercise and the Karibi Whyte Specialist Hospital project.
