U.S. Military Leaders Warn Secretary Hegseth Over Iran Operations

Military leaders have cautioned Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth that continuing large-scale operations against Iran is unsustainable. A classified assessment from August 14 reveals that heads of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, alongside commanders from Europe, Asia, and Latin America, believe the conflict is draining resources and weakening the ability of the United States to address threats domestically and abroad.

While Army and Air Force leadership agreed to extend deployed forces, they highlighted significant risks. In contrast, the Chief of Naval Operations and leaders of the European, Pacific, and Southern Commands issued a non-concur, formally disagreeing with the order to extend forces. Admiral Daryl Caudle specifically noted that the Navy cannot maintain current support levels because the operations lack a defined end date.

These internal tensions follow directives from President Donald Trump, who insists on keeping all military options open to pressure Tehran into reopening the Strait of Hormuz. As a result of this strategy, over 50,000 troops remain on alert under the direction of the United States Central Command.
