Singapore Urges Israel to Halt West Bank Settlement Expansion

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Singapore urged the Israeli government on August 24, 2026, to halt plans for expanding settlements in the E1 area of the West Bank. Singapore stated that these settlements are illegal under international law and warned that further construction would fragment the territory and undermine the prospects for a two-state solution.

The request follows a recent tender issued by the Israeli government for seven residential compounds totaling 1,234 units in the E1 tract. This move, signed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has also drawn condemnation from Germany, Britain, Italy, and France.

Singapore also expressed deep concern regarding increasing settler violence against Palestinian civilians, calling on Israel to prevent such attacks and hold perpetrators accountable. The ministry maintained that a negotiated two-state solution consistent with United Nations Security Council resolutions remains the only viable pathway to a comprehensive and durable peace.
