Senator Chris Murphy Condemns Trump's Post-Election Iran War Plan
Senator Chris Murphy warned that President Donald Trump's plan to escalate military operations against Iran after the midterm elections is insane and would trigger a devastating escalation.
U.S. Senator Chris Murphy condemned a reported plan by the Trump administration to resume and intensify military operations against Iran following the November 3 midterm elections. Speaking at a Middle East Institute event, Murphy described the strategy as "insane," warning that targeting Iranian assets, including civilian infrastructure, would lead to a devastating escalation and destroy the U.S. commitment to the rule of law.
Reports indicate that the United States Central Command submitted plans to the White House in October to intensify strikes, with sufficient forces already deployed in the region to exceed previous status-quo operations. While President Donald Trump has stated that no new strikes will occur before the elections, the administration has reportedly informed Gulf countries of a possible short, intense campaign thereafter. Admiral Brad Cooper, chief of U.S. Central Command, recently briefed Trump on the state of the war.
Concurrent with these developments, President Trump and Vice President JD Vance cancelled campaign events in Iowa, Kansas, and Minnesota without providing official reasons. Internationally, the Royal Navy deployed three of its four nuclear-deterrent submarines in an unusual move, while General Sir Roly Walker suggested the United Kingdom government may eventually need to consider conscription for 18-24-year-olds as national security risks increase.
