Philadelphia Officials Condemn Planned Boycott Ride Targeting Jewish Businesses
Philadelphia and Pennsylvania officials denounced a planned bicycle boycott targeting Jewish-owned businesses on November 8, calling the event blatant antisemitism.
Anti-Israel activist groups, including Philly Bike On Your Left, have organized a bicycle boycott ride scheduled for November 8 in Philadelphia's Rittenhouse Square neighborhood. The event targets Jewish and Israeli-owned businesses, including Schlesinger’s, Mac Mart, Huda Burger, and several CookNSolo group restaurants such as Dizengoff, K’Far Cafe, and Goldie. Organizers promoted the ride via Instagram and flyers, calling business owners "disgusting humans" and stating that as the ideology of Zionism dies, these businesses will die with it.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, Attorney General Dave Sunday, and Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker have all condemned the action as blatant antisemitism. Officials and Jewish advocacy groups, including the Anti-Defamation League, highlighted the disturbing timing of the event, which falls on the eve of the anniversary of Kristallnacht. Attorney General Sunday described the targeting of residents based on their faith as "unconscionable."
Mayor Parker has directed the Philadelphia Police Department to maintain order and protect the targeted establishments and nearby houses of worship. She warned that anyone engaging in intimidation or unlawful conduct will be held accountable. The Pennsylvania State Police are also coordinating with local partners to ensure safety. In response to the planned boycott, targeted business owners have reported receiving significant public support.
