India Leads World's 15 Largest Economies in Intangible Investment Growth
India became the fastest-growing major economy in intangible investments, reaching 78.2 billion USD in 2023 according to a World Intellectual Property Organization report.
India has emerged as the fastest-growing major economy among the world's 15 largest nations in terms of intangible investments. According to the World Intangible Investment Report 2026, co-published by the World Intellectual Property Organization and Luiss Business School, India's intangible investments reached 78.2 billion USD in 2023, marking a 7.9 percent growth rate.
Piyush Goyal, the Commerce and Industry Minister, stated that software and databases represent nearly 45 percent of this total, the highest share of any studied economy. The growth is attributed to investments in intellectual property, research and development, software, and organizational capabilities.
Goyal credited these results to digital transformation, startup support, and policy reforms implemented under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He described the trend as a shift toward a knowledge-driven future powered by innovation and enterprise.
