Trump Hosts Crypto Gala Amid Meme Coin Collapse and Lawsuits
President Donald Trump hosted top holders of his $TRUMP meme coin at Mar-a-Lago while facing congressional scrutiny and a fraud lawsuit against his family venture.
President Donald Trump hosted a cryptocurrency and business conference on April 25, 2026, at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida. The event was limited to the top 297 holders of the $TRUMP meme coin, with a private VIP reception for the top 29. During his keynote address, Trump advocated for the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act and warned banking lobbyists against obstructing the legislation, asserting that the White House would not let banks ruin the proposed market structure.
The gala occurred as the $TRUMP token's value plummeted more than 95% from its January 2025 peak, leaving retail investors with over $4.3 billion in losses. Conversely, Trump-affiliated entities reportedly earned over $1 billion from crypto asset sales, including nearly $400 million in transaction fees. Democratic Senators Elizabeth Warren, Adam Schiff, and Richard Blumenthal criticized the event, alleging the president was dangling access to himself to drive profits for his family.
Simultaneously, cryptocurrency billionaire Justin Sun, a top contest winner and attendee, filed a fraud lawsuit against the Trump-backed firm World Liberty Financial, alleging the company froze his holdings. Zach Witkoff, CEO of World Liberty Financial, dismissed the lawsuit as meritless. The White House defended the president's actions, stating he attended the conference in a personal capacity and that his assets are held in a trust managed by his children.
