TotalEnergies and AMNI Sign $800 Million Ima Gas Deal

TotalEnergies and AMNI International reached a final investment decision to develop the Ima gas field, providing critical feedgas for Nigeria LNG's Train 7 expansion.

TotalEnergies and AMNI International have signed a final investment decision to develop the Ima gas field offshore Nigeria. The project, valued at approximately $800 million, targets resources discovered in 1973 that remained undeveloped for 53 years. Located in shallow waters near Bonny Island within Oil Mining Leases 112 and 117, the development will utilize a single platform and a pipeline to supply gas to Nigeria LNG.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President of Nigeria, announced the deal on September 23, 2026, attributing the investment to 2024 presidential directives designed to improve fiscal competitiveness and reduce contracting timelines. The project is the fourth major gas development to reach a final investment decision under his administration. Nigerian financial institutions provided approximately 77% of the project's funding.

Production is scheduled to begin in 2028, reaching a plateau of 350 million cubic feet per day. This output will provide roughly one-third of the feedgas required for the Nigeria LNG Train 7 expansion, which aims to increase plant capacity from 22 million to 30 million tons per annum. TotalEnergies serves as the operator with a 40% stake, while AMNI International holds 60%.

The development emphasizes low emissions through a no-flaring policy and shore-based electric power. To support local economic growth, the partners committed to sourcing 60% of the development workforce from host communities in Rivers State and utilizing Nigerian contractors for all key roles.
