Turkish Ministers Visit Belgium for First Decadal Security Talks
Turkish Foreign, Interior, and Justice ministers are visiting Belgium for the first ministerial-level security and cooperation meetings in ten years.
A high-level Turkish delegation led by Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan arrived in Belgium on Monday, October 19, 2026, for a three-day diplomatic visit. The delegation, which includes Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi and Justice Minister Akın Gürlek, will participate in the fourth meeting of Turkish-Belgian foreign, justice, and interior ministers on Tuesday. This marks the first such meeting between the two nations in a decade.
The talks focus on bilateral cooperation across several critical sectors, including counterterrorism, the defense industry, and migration. The ministers will also address judicial and law enforcement cooperation, as well as consular and visa services. The Belgian delegation consists of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot, Interior Minister Bernard Quintin, Justice Minister Annelies Verlinden, and Minister of Asylum, Migration, Integration and Urban Policy Anneleen Van Bossuyt.
Beyond the bilateral meetings, Foreign Minister Fidan is scheduled to hold discussions with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte and EU High Representative Kaja Kallas. He is also expected to address the European Policy Centre think tank during his visit.
