Trump Threatens to Fire Pirro After Case Dismissal

Donald Trump is considering removing U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro after her office moved to dismiss criminal charges against former Olympian David Hearn. The charges involved alleged vandalism to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, but Pirro's office filed a motion on Friday stating that Department of the Interior documents prove the damage resulted from a hasty and botched renovation by contractor Atlantic Industrial Coatings rather than intentional acts.

President Trump publicly rejected this conclusion on Truth Social, asserting the damage was a "pure case of VANDALISM" and claiming Pirro "folded like an umbrella" because the presiding judge was "vicious." Interior Secretary Doug Burgum supported the president, maintaining that evidence shows vandals repeatedly caused the damage. Trump's comments contradict the findings of the U.S. Department of Justice, though the president later expressed dissatisfaction with the contractor, whom he claimed he did not know.

Atlantic Industrial Coatings had received a $14.7 million no-bid contract to repaint and waterproof the pool, a project rushed to meet the America 250 celebration deadline. While Pirro attributed the motion to dismiss to career officials in her office, Hearn's legal team has accused the administration of using the athlete as a scapegoat for renovation failures and is considering legal action. The Reflecting Pool remains drained for further repairs and is expected to reopen within two weeks.
