MP Shaun Chen Resigns Over Health Issues
Liberal Member of Parliament Shaun Chen announced his resignation from the Scarborough North seat due to health complications following a 2025 car accident.
Liberal Member of Parliament Shaun Chen announced on August 10, 2026, that he will resign his seat for Scarborough North this coming Saturday. Chen stated that significant health issues resulting from a car accident in late 2025 have hindered his ability to travel to Ottawa to perform his parliamentary duties.
Prime Minister Mark Carney thanked Chen for his advocacy for youth and his efforts in combating racism. Chen's departure occurs amid a broader trend of parliamentary vacancies this summer. Other upcoming resignations include former Liberal cabinet minister Steven Guilbeault, Conservative MPs Cathay Wagantall and Larry Brock, and NDP MP Alexandre Boulerice.
