Former Military Secretary Accuses Netanyahu of Ignoring War Warnings
Major General Avi Gil alleges Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ignored internal warnings of eroding deterrence before the October 7 attacks.
Major General Avi Gil, who served as military secretary to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from July 2021 to May 2024, alleged in a Channel 12 News interview that the Israeli security establishment warned Netanyahu about the potential for war before the October 7 attacks. Gil stated that an erosion of deterrence was identified and communicated at every level, although he clarified there was no specific warning of a massive attack originating from Gaza.
Gil further claimed that Netanyahu's official account of the events consists of lies and half-truths, and alleged that the Prime Minister prioritized government stability over the return of hostages. Benjamin Netanyahu denied these allegations, asserting that Gil was also aware of the impending attack but failed to wake the Prime Minister in time.
Opposition leader Gadi Eisenkot has called on the Attorney General to investigate the claims, arguing that the public is entitled to the truth. These revelations occur weeks before a critical election that will determine Netanyahu's political future.
