Donald Trump Pledges $5,000 Payments to Adults if Republicans Win Midterms
President Donald Trump promised $5,000 payments to every adult U.S. citizen if Republicans retain control of Congress in the November 4 midterm elections.
President Donald Trump pledged to provide $5,000 payments to every adult citizen in the United States if Republicans maintain control of both the House and the Senate in the November 4 midterm elections. Speaking at rallies in San Antonio, Texas, and Clarksville, Tennessee, and in a video on X, Trump stated that the plan would be funded by tariff revenue and economic growth from new industrial investments.
The proposal has drawn criticism from across the political spectrum. Representative Chip Roy opposed the plan on the grounds that it creates dependency, while Senator Chris Coons argued the payments would increase inflation and expand the national deficit.
Constitutional and legislative questions remain regarding the execution of the plan. House Speaker Mike Johnson indicated that congressional approval would likely be required to distribute the funds, though Trump suggested in a CBS interview that he might be able to bypass lawmakers. Separately, the administration is currently issuing health insurance rebates, including $90 payments to roughly 20 million Medicare Part B recipients and $500 payments to nearly 1 million people overcharged through Affordable Care Act exchanges.
