Iran and Oman Agree on Strait of Hormuz Shipping Map

The Government of Iran and the Government of Oman have reached an agreement on a shipping route map for the Strait of Hormuz following three months of technical negotiations. Under the proposed framework, Iran will oversee inbound commercial traffic while Oman manages outbound vessels to reduce security incidents and collisions.

The arrangement follows a memorandum of understanding signed on June 18. While the route map is agreed upon, the deal is not yet formally finalized as technical teams continue to develop operational procedures and a joint statement.

Iranian officials stated that the establishment of these corridors does not signal a return to unrestricted commercial navigation. Tehran maintains that a full reopening of the waterway depends on wider geopolitical conditions, specifically the end of U.S. economic sanctions, military threats, and naval blockades.
