Israel and US Destroy Iranian Nuclear Facilities and Naval Assets
Israel and the United States dismantled Iranian nuclear and naval infrastructure while achieving tactical victories against Hamas and Hezbollah following the October 7, 2023 attacks.
Following the October 7, 2023 attacks, Israel and the United States conducted a series of coordinated military operations that resulted in significant tactical victories. In joint strikes during June 2025 and the spring of 2026, the two nations destroyed Iranian nuclear facilities, hundreds of ballistic missiles and launchers, and the majority of the regular Iranian navy. These efforts, combined with Israeli assaults, eliminated the top leadership of Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran, and contributed to the collapse of Bashar al-Assad's regime in Syria.
To prevent future attacks, Israel established military buffer zones in Gaza, Syria, and southern Lebanon. However, the government of Benjamin Netanyahu has faced mounting criticism for accelerating housing development and fast-tracking a corridor that divides Palestinian-controlled areas in the West Bank. The administration has further strained relations by withholding customs and tax revenues from the Palestinian National Authority and failing to restrain Jewish extremists, who have killed over 1,000 Palestinians.
These domestic and territorial policies have jeopardized normalization efforts with Saudi Arabia, strained ties with European leaders, and divided American public opinion. While the military operations achieved their immediate objectives, observers note that the absence of a diplomatic pathway toward peace and the erosion of U.S. support present long-term strategic risks to Israeli security.
