Republican Ashley Moody Wins Florida U.S. Senate Election

Republican Ashley Moody defeated Democrat Angie Nixon in the November 3 Florida U.S. Senate general election to retain her seat through January 2029.

Republican Ashley Moody won the Florida U.S. Senate general election on November 3, 2026, securing more than 50% of the vote to defeat Democrat Angie Nixon. Moody, a former Florida attorney general, was appointed to the seat in January 2025 by Governor Ron DeSantis after Marco Rubio resigned to become secretary of state. Her campaign focused on law enforcement, border security, conservative economic policies, and federal disaster recovery, earning endorsements from President Donald Trump and Governor DeSantis.

Angie Nixon, a former state representative from Jacksonville and member of the Democratic Socialists of America, ran a grassroots campaign centered on the cost of living, health care, and abortion rights. Nixon previously defeated establishment Democrat Alex Vindman in the primary and received endorsements from former President Barack Obama and Senator Bernie Sanders. Her platform advocated for Medicare for All and taxing billionaires, positioning her as a champion for working families.

The race was marked by a sharp ideological divide. Moody utilized attack ads labeling Nixon a radical socialist, while Nixon's campaign highlighted a grand jury report alleging Moody's role in the misappropriation of $10 million from a state Medicaid settlement to the Hope Florida Foundation. Moody will now serve the remainder of the original term ending in January 2029.
