Goldman Sachs Advises Shift From Tech to Lagging Sectors

Goldman Sachs strategists are advising clients to diversify investments into 23 lagging stocks as the Magnificent Seven tech group faces AI infrastructure cost pressures.

Goldman Sachs strategists are advising clients to shift investments away from the Magnificent Seven technology group and toward 23 stocks in lagging market sectors. This recommendation follows significant turbulence for the tech giants, which include Alphabet, Apple, Amazon, Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia, and Tesla.

The shift comes after the group suffered a combined market value loss of $2.3 trillion in June. Strategists attribute this pressure to the immense capital expenditures required for artificial intelligence infrastructure, specifically the hundreds of billions of dollars committed to chip purchases and data centers. Microsoft and Nvidia experienced substantial declines during this period.

Ben Snider, who leads the strategist group, notes that Apple has functioned as a hedge against this volatility. This relative stability is due to Apple maintaining lower capital spending compared to its peers in the AI race.
