Pennsylvania and Arizona Hold High-Stakes Statewide and Federal Elections
Voters in Pennsylvania and Arizona head to the polls on November 3 for critical gubernatorial, congressional, and state legislative contests.
Voters in Pennsylvania and Arizona will cast ballots on November 3 in a series of high-stakes elections that could shift the balance of power in state governments and the U.S. House of Representatives.
In Pennsylvania, Governor Josh Shapiro is seeking a second term against Republican State Treasurer Stacy Garrity. Democrats are also attempting to flip the state Senate for the first time since 1994. Four congressional districts are highly competitive, including the 1st District where Democrat Bob Harvie is challenging Republican incumbent Brian Fitzpatrick. Because state law prohibits counting mail-in ballots before polls open, results for several of the nearly one million cast ballots may not be finalized on election night.
Simultaneously, Arizona voters are deciding the gubernatorial race between Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs and Republican Representative Andy Biggs. The election includes contests for all 30 state Senate and 60 state House seats, as well as key congressional battles in the 1st and 2nd Districts. Maricopa County remains the most influential region for these outcomes. Arizona law mandates automatic recounts if the margin of victory in any race is 0.5% or less.
