Bank of Israel Rejects Netanyahu Crypto Sanctions Plan
The Bank of Israel rejected Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's proposal to use cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology to bypass potential international economic sanctions.
The Bank of Israel has publicly rejected a proposal by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to utilize blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies to bypass potential international economic sanctions. Netanyahu requested a plan for an alternative economic framework to prevent the paralysis of the national banking system in the event of economic isolation.
The central bank countered that cryptocurrencies cannot serve as a means to circumvent sanctions. Bank officials asserted that the political leadership's primary responsibility is to maintain relations with trading partners to prevent sanctions from occurring in the first place.
Despite the bank's opposition, Netanyahu maintained that cryptocurrency is one of several potential means available to the state, though he noted it is not certain the method will be used.
