Yair Golan Warns Netanyahu May Use Iran Conflict to Stay in Power
Israeli Democrats leader Yair Golan warns Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could exploit potential military strikes on Iran to maintain power following inconclusive parliamentary elections.
Opposition leader Yair Golan warned that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu may leverage a potential military confrontation with Iran to prolong his tenure in office. Golan argued that the increasing likelihood of fighting with Iran demonstrates Netanyahu's failure and stated that the Prime Minister lacks the moral legitimacy and basic capacity to manage such a conflict.
These warnings follow inconclusive parliamentary elections in which no political bloc secured the 61 seats required for a majority in the 120-member Knesset. Netanyahu's bloc won 53 seats, while Jewish opposition parties won 48 and Palestinian parties won 19. The political deadlock coincides with reports that Israel and the United States may launch attacks on Iran after the U.S. midterm elections on November 3, though no such attack has been confirmed.
Netanyahu currently faces an ongoing corruption trial and arrest warrants from the International Criminal Court for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. In response to the instability, Golan urged political leaders to form an alternative government to ensure national security.
