Lula and Bolsonaro Campaign for Brazil Presidential Runoff
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and challenger Flávio Bolsonaro hold rallies across Brazil ahead of the October 25 presidential runoff election.
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva held a campaign rally on Monday along Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro to support his reelection bid. The event, which occupied several blocks of Avenida Atlântica, followed a similar gathering in São Paulo on Sunday. During the rally, Lula contrasted his platform on workers' rights with that of his opponent, questioning whether the opposing party wants workers to work six days and rest one, or give workers two days off.
His opponent, Flávio Bolsonaro, held a separate campaign rally in São Gonçalo on Saturday. The two candidates are preparing for a presidential runoff on October 25 after neither secured a majority in the first round of voting on October 4. Current electoral figures show Flávio Bolsonaro leading with 47.03% of valid votes compared to 45.16% for Lula. The upcoming vote will determine the leadership of Latin America's largest economy for the next term.
