Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar congratulated Ed Miliband on his appointment as the UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs on July 21, 2026. In a statement posted on X, Jaishankar highlighted the strong momentum of the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, specifically noting the entry into force of CETA.
Jaishankar expressed his intent to work with Miliband to further advance cooperation between the two nations. Miliband assumed the role on Monday, having previously served as the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero and as the Leader of the Labour Party from 2010 to 2015.
The two countries have a history of collaboration in the energy sector, which includes the establishment of a UK-India Offshore Wind Taskforce.
