Israel Sets October 27 Election Date Amid Potential Deadlock

Israelis will vote for the 26th Knesset on October 27, with polling suggesting neither Benjamin Netanyahu nor Gadi Eisenkot can secure a majority.

Israelis will vote for the 26th Knesset on October 27, 2026, following three years of war. The election features a fractured field of up to 38 parties competing for 120 seats. Current polling suggests a potential deadlock, as neither the right-wing bloc led by Benjamin Netanyahu nor the center-left bloc led by Gadi Eisenkot is projected to secure the 61 seats required for a majority.

Netanyahu and his Likud party face a challenge from Eisenkot's Yashar party, which is campaigning to end military conscription exemptions for the ultra-Orthodox Haredim and establish a State Commission of Inquiry into the October 7 attacks. Netanyahu's position has been weakened by the failure of right-wing allies, including the Religious Zionism and Otzma Yehudit parties, to merge, leaving some vulnerable to falling below the 3.25% electoral threshold.

With the opposition bloc also seeing a decline in numbers, Arab-led parties such as the Joint List and Ra’am have emerged as potential kingmakers. While both major camps have pledged to exclude Arab parties from any coalition, such commitments may be tested to avoid repeated election cycles. Additionally, the Central Elections Committee is considering extending voting hours or adding a polling day to prevent security emergencies from disrupting the process.
