Israel Targets Hamas Leaders and Warns Iran of Strikes
Israel Defense Forces targeted Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad leaders in Gaza while Defense Minister Israel Katz warned Iran of potential military operations.
The Israel Defense Forces carried out a series of targeted strikes in the Gaza Strip on Thursday, killing several high-value targets. These operations included the death of Waheed Abu Salam, a Hamas operative involved in the October 7 attacks, and Rashid al-Kadhi, the head of weapons production for Palestinian Islamic Jihad. An airstrike also targeted the vehicle of Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem; while Qassem survived because he was not in the car, his bodyguard and aide, Mohammed al-Fayoumi, was killed.
Broader military activity in Gaza resulted in the deaths of at least 12 Palestinians over a 24-hour period. The IDF collaborated with the Shin Bet to execute these operations, reflecting a continued effort to dismantle the leadership structures of militant groups in the region.
Simultaneously, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz shifted the focus to regional tensions during a pilot graduation ceremony at Hatzerim Air Base. Katz issued a direct warning to Iran, stating that Israel is prepared to resume military operations and possesses the capability to strike targets anywhere within Iranian territory.
