Afenifere Endorses President Bola Tinubu for 2027 Term
Afenifere formally endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term and urged the federal government to eliminate security threats ahead of the 2027 elections.
The pan-Yoruba socio-political organization Afenifere formally endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 presidential election. Following a caucus meeting in Akure, the group cited Tinubu's commitment to economic prosperity, inclusivity, the deepening of democracy, and the restructuring of Nigeria as the primary reasons for its support.
In a seven-point communiqué, the organization called on the federal government and security agencies to decisively eliminate threats from bandits and terrorists to ensure a peaceful voting environment. Afenifere specifically condemned recent attacks on security bases in Oyo State and demanded aggressive operations to clear criminals from forests and borderlands.
Beyond election security, the group requested federal support for state governments enforcing anti-open grazing laws to reduce farmer-herder clashes in Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, and Kwara states. The organization also announced the establishment of a Yoruba Language Renaissance Trust Fund to promote and preserve the Yoruba language.
