Pakistan Declares August 26 Public Holiday for Eid Milad un Nabi
The government of Pakistan declared August 26 a public holiday to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad following moon sighting determinations.
The federal government of Pakistan has declared Wednesday, August 26, 2026, a public holiday to observe Eid Milad un Nabi, the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad. The decision was approved by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and formalized through a notification from the Cabinet Division.
The date was established after the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, led by Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, confirmed that the Rabi ul Awal moon had not been sighted the previous week. In addition to the federal mandate, the Government of Sindh announced a public holiday within its province for the same date.
Official observances will include a 31-gun salute in Islamabad and 21-gun salutes in provincial capitals. The celebrations will also feature special prayers for the prosperity of Pakistan and the Muslim Ummah, alongside various Mahafil-e-Milad and Milad processions across the country.
