APC Nominates Tinubu and Shettima for 2027 Election
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima are the All Progressives Congress's official ticket for the 2027 general elections.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) formally nominated Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima as its presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the 2027 general election. The announcement took place during a ceremony at the Continental Hotel in Abuja on July 10, 2026, where nomination forms were submitted to National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda for transmission to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
By July 12, the APC confirmed it had completed a 100% upload of 471 candidates to the INEC portal, including 109 senatorial and 360 House of Representatives candidates. The decision to retain Shettima ends months of speculation regarding a potential shift to a Northern Christian candidate to address concerns over the party's Muslim-Muslim ticket. Party leadership frames the move as a strategy to ensure political stability, maintain a bridge to Northern Nigeria, and continue the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The ticket received strong support from party officials and regional stakeholders. Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso and Governor Babagana Umara Zulum praised the decision as a sign of political sagacity and stability. The Northeast APC Youth Critical Stakeholders Forum pledged to mobilize youth voters, asserting that the vice-presidential slot recognizes the strategic importance of the Northeast. Conversely, the decision sparked debate over religious balance, as the Christian Association of Nigeria had previously pressured the president for a Muslim-Christian ticket.
