Republican Budget Bill Allocates $170 Billion for Mass Deportations

A Republican budget bill allocates $170 billion over four years to fund a massive immigration crackdown. The funding aims to support the goals of Donald Trump, who seeks to deport 1 million people annually and execute 3,000 arrests per day.

The proposal would expand the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent force from 6,000 to 16,000 personnel. It further allocates $45 billion to create a daily detention capacity of 100,000 beds, including a 5,000-bed tent camp in the Florida Everglades. Under this plan, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security would become the largest federal law enforcement agency.

Vice President JD Vance described the immigration enforcement provisions as the most critical element of the bill, stating that other budget details are immaterial by comparison. However, the Cato Institute and the American Immigration Council argue the spending lacks oversight and fails to address asylum and court system reforms. Opponents also warn that the scale of the operation increases the risk of detaining U.S. citizens, pointing to recent raids in California where citizens were briefly detained.
