Republican Chris McGowan defeated Democrat Dave Dawson to win Iowa's 4th Congressional District, securing 57.9% of the vote in the November 3 election.

Chris McGowan won the election for Iowa's 4th Congressional District on November 3, 2026, defeating Democrat Dave Dawson. According to an Associated Press race call, McGowan secured 57.9% of the vote with 78% of results reported.

A lawyer and Iowa National Guard veteran, McGowan previously led the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce and the Siouxland Initiative. He campaigned on reducing the national debt and federal spending, receiving an endorsement and campaign support from President Donald Trump. McGowan succeeds Republican Randy Feenstra, who vacated the seat to run for governor.

His opponent, Dave Dawson, is a prosecutor with the Woodbury County Attorney's Office and a former state lawmaker. While the candidates disagreed on healthcare, tariffs, and the war in Iran, they maintained a civil campaign and both supported the year-round sale of E15 ethanol. McGowan is scheduled to take office in January.
