Hispanic Voters Shift Toward Democrats Ahead of 2026 Midterms
Hispanic voters now favor Democrats by 30 percentage points, reversing a 2024 trend and threatening Republican leads in several key swing states.
Hispanic voters have emerged as the most critical swing demographic in the 2026 midterm elections, showing a significant shift back toward the Democratic Party. A New York Times/Siena poll indicates that Latino voters now favor Democrats over Republicans by 30 percentage points, reversing the gains Donald Trump made with the group in 2024.
This shift is driven primarily by opposition to aggressive immigration enforcement by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement and concerns over the cost of living. While 61 percent of Hispanic voters currently support Democrats for the midterms, this level of support remains below what was seen in 2016.
The trend threatens Republican interests in several highly competitive House and Senate races. The shift could specifically undermine Republican gerrymandering efforts in Texas and Florida, while impacting outcomes in Arizona, California, Colorado, and Pennsylvania.
