IAEA Urges Iran to Grant Nuclear Facility Access

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi urged Iran to grant immediate access to nuclear sites during a UN Security Council meeting amid threats of renewed U.S. strikes.

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi urged Iran to grant immediate access to its nuclear facilities during a UN Security Council meeting on Tuesday. Grossi called for the verification of 440 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60 percent, noting that the agency has lacked access to key sites since June 2025. The Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant remains the only facility where verification activities continue.

The request follows an IAEA board resolution submitted by Britain, France, Germany, and the United States, which referred Iran to the Security Council for nuclear non-compliance. This diplomatic tension occurs against the backdrop of a war that began February 28, following strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities launched by Israel and the United States in June 2025.

Iran's UN representative, Amir Saeid Iravani, condemned the proceedings as a double standard that ignores military aggression. Simultaneously, U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to renew military strikes against Iran following the upcoming midterm elections.
