House Passes Resolution Directing Donald Trump to End Iran War

The U.S. House of Representatives voted 220-204 on September 15 to pass House Concurrent Resolution 93, directing Donald Trump to end military actions against Iran. Sponsored by Representative Seth Moulton, the measure marks the third time the House has passed such a resolution in four months. Republican opposition softened slightly, with seven members voting in favor, including Representatives Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Nancy Mace.

The conflict began on February 28 with Operation Epic Fury and resumed in July after a peace memorandum collapsed. According to the Congressional Budget Office, the war cost approximately $38 billion through August 1, with monthly expenses between $2 billion and $3 billion. The hostilities have resulted in at least 18 American service member deaths and disrupted oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz, contributing to higher gas and diesel prices.

While the Trump administration views the War Powers Act as non-binding and unconstitutional, the resolution reflects growing domestic discontent. Simultaneously, Representative Thomas Massie filed articles of impeachment against Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, alleging he illegally executed hostilities without congressional approval. President Trump has defended the strategy as having degraded Iran's military and suggested the war will end immediately after the November midterm elections. House Speaker Mike Johnson stated the conflict is entering a new phase as allies assist in regional stabilization.
