Andy Burnham Pledges New Tactics After Record Migrant Crossing

Prime Minister Andy Burnham pledged to change government tactics to combat smuggling gangs after a record 230 migrants arrived in Britain in a single 15-meter inflatable boat on Monday morning. Addressing the dispersal of asylum seekers, Burnham argued that affluent areas must share the responsibility of housing refugees to ensure the burden does not fall solely on the poorest communities. This statement follows a dispute in Piddington, Oxfordshire, where residents are protesting a Home Office plan to use MOD Bicester Site A to house up to 1,250 men by the end of 2026. The proposed facility borders the village playing field, leading some villagers to threaten an independence referendum.
