Narendra Modi Hails India's 7.8 Percent GDP Growth

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Indian citizens on Tuesday after the country reported a real GDP growth rate of 7.8 percent for the April-June quarter of FY27. Speaking from Bishkek, where he is attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit, Modi stated that the growth reflects the collective strength and resilience of the people despite global instability, supply chain disruptions, and domestic negativities and frustration peddled by some.

India's growth rate outpaced other major economies, including China at 4.3 percent and the United States at 2.1 percent. To sustain this momentum and achieve the goal of a developed India, or Viksit Bharat, by 2047, Modi urged citizens to embrace the Swadeshi movement and Vocal for Local initiatives.

As part of this push for domestic resilience, Modi specifically called on Indians to avoid non-essential gold purchases, foreign travel, and destination weddings abroad in favor of domestic products and services.
