Canadian CEOs Support Mark Carney's Interventionist Economic Agenda
The Business Council of Canada reports that over 80% of top executives support Prime Minister Mark Carney's strategic economic shift toward sovereignty and resilience.
More than 80% of top executives support the interventionist economic agenda of Prime Minister Mark Carney, according to a survey by the Business Council of Canada. The policy shift focuses on diversifying exports, boosting investment, and increasing national resilience through strategic government involvement in key sectors.
To implement this vision, Carney introduced a productivity mega-deduction to expand tax breaks for capital investments. He also passed legislation designed to streamline project approvals and expand federal authority in labor disputes.
Despite the broad support for the agenda's direction, business leaders expressed significant doubt regarding the government's ability to execute these plans. Respondents described Canada's institutional capacity as weak or uneven, with 59% citing regulatory complexity and red tape as the primary obstacles to economic success. Theo Argitis of the Business Council of Canada noted that while leaders support the shift toward sovereignty, they expect government involvement to remain disciplined and focused on driving investment.
