Texas Sets October 5 Deadline for November Midterm Elections

Texas Secretary of State Robert S. Howden announced that eligible residents must register by Monday, October 5, to vote in the November 3 General Election. To qualify, individuals must be U.S. citizens, residents of their registration county, and at least 18 years old by Election Day. This deadline also applies to voters needing to update their registration due to name or address changes.

Early voting in Texas is scheduled to run from October 19 through October 30. The ballot includes a gubernatorial race featuring incumbent Governor Greg Abbott against Gina Hinojosa and Pat Dixon, as well as a U.S. Senate seat contested by Ted Brown, Ken Paxton, and James Talarico. Other contested offices include the attorney general, lieutenant governor, and state comptroller.

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson characterized the midterms as a contrast between two different worldviews for the United States. While some commentators suggest a left-wing victory could lead to further impeachment efforts against the president and his Cabinet, others have urged voters to prioritize down-ballot offices such as mayors, judges, and school boards to ensure specific values are represented in government.
