Humanitarian Convoy Prepares to Enter Occupied Oleshky
Ukrainian and Russian human rights commissioners coordinate a humanitarian mission to deliver aid to 1,700 residents in Russian-occupied Oleshky under a U.S.-brokered ceasefire.
Human rights commissioners from Ukraine and Russia announced on October 29, 2026, that demining of routes into the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky is complete. A humanitarian convoy is now assembled and ready to depart for the city's central hospital to provide food, medicine, and assistance to an estimated 1,700 remaining residents.
Dmytro Lubinets, the Ukrainian Commissioner for Human Rights, coordinated the mission alongside Russian Commissioner Yana Lantratova. The operation follows a ceasefire brokered by U.S. President Donald Trump, with additional mediation and coordination provided by First Lady Melania Trump. Under the agreement, residents wishing to evacuate the city have until 2:00 p.m. on October 30, with aid distribution scheduled to begin after 2:30 p.m.
The mission includes journalists from three countries, including a crew from Newsmax. Despite the agreement, some Ukrainian advocates expressed concern that Russia might utilize the ceasefire to rotate military units or continue using civilians as human shields.
