Chris Coons Wins Reelection to Delaware Senate Seat
Democratic Senator Chris Coons defeated Republican Michael Katz to secure a third full term in the U.S. Senate.
Democratic Senator Chris Coons won reelection to his U.S. Senate seat in Delaware on November 4, 2026, defeating Republican challenger Michael Katz. With 94 percent of votes counted, Coons held 64.2 percent of the vote compared to 35.8 percent for Katz.
Coons campaigned on a platform of clean energy, immigration reform, expanding healthcare access, and increasing wages. He also heavily criticized President Donald Trump's military operation in Iran, describing it as a "war of choice" that created instability in the Middle East and increased costs for Americans. Coons previously stated he would use his role as the senior Democrat on defense appropriations to block funding for the conflict.
The victory maintains a Democratic trend in Delaware, which has not been represented by a Republican senator in 53 years. Coons first entered the Senate in 2010 via a special election and will begin his third full term in 2027. In a separate race, Democratic Representative Sarah McBride also won reelection to Delaware's sole U.S. House seat, defeating Republican Joseph Arminio.
