Jakarta Composite Index Drops 2.3% Amid Global Market Volatility
The Jakarta Composite Index fell over 140 points in three sessions as oil prices dropped and U.S. tariff threats shook global markets.
The Jakarta Composite Index experienced a significant three-session decline, closing at 6,196.43 on Friday after dropping 118.88 points, or 1.88%, in a single day. The total slide across the three sessions exceeded 140 points, representing a 2.3% loss. The downturn primarily impacted stocks in the finance, resource, transportation, and infrastructure sectors.
Global market conditions contributed to the volatility. Oil prices fell following an output increase by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, while technology shares showed general weakness. Simultaneously, U.S. markets faced instability after President Donald Trump threatened the European Union with substantial tariffs. These threats came in response to fines the European Union levied against major U.S. technology companies.
