Elon Musk Donates $446 Million to Republican Super PACs
Elon Musk contributed over $446 million to Republican super PACs, sparking legal challenges and threats of targeted taxation from Texas Democrats.
Trillionaire Elon Musk has contributed more than $446 million to Republican-supporting super PACs for the 2026 midterm cycle. A significant portion of these funds supports Texas Senate candidate Ken Paxton, and Musk provided an additional $5 million to the reelection campaign of Texas Governor Greg Abbott.
These contributions have triggered a backlash from Democratic candidates in Texas. Gina Hinojosa successfully sued to obtain unredacted communications between Musk and Governor Abbott concerning land use and data centers. Meanwhile, Texas Democratic Party Chair Kendall Scudder and other state candidates have suggested that a Democratic victory in state government could lead to the implementation of targeted taxes and regulations specifically for trillionaires to counter Musk's political spending.
At the federal level, U.S. Representatives Sam Liccardo, Jimmy Panetta, and Ro Khanna have called for a White House investigation into allegations that Musk throttled Starshield services in Ukraine for political gain.
