DNC Names Boston, Denver, and Philadelphia 2028 Convention Finalists
The Democratic National Committee shortlisted Boston, Denver, and Philadelphia as potential host cities for the 2028 presidential convention scheduled for August 7-10.
The Democratic National Committee narrowed its list of potential host cities for the 2028 presidential convention to Boston, Denver, and Philadelphia. The decision follows site visits to five cities conducted in April and May to evaluate logistical and fundraising capacities. Atlanta and Chicago were eliminated from consideration, though the party provided no specific reasons for their removal.
DNC Chairman Ken Martin described the finalists' bids as "incredibly strong" and stated he intends for the event to be an "inspiring celebration of our party's future nominee." The convention, scheduled for August 7-10, 2028, will formally introduce the nominee to succeed President Donald Trump. Party leaders expect to make a final selection later this year, while Republicans have already selected Houston as their site.
Philadelphia's candidacy is supported by its location in the swing state of Pennsylvania and its recent experience hosting major 2026 events, including the MLB All-Star Game and FIFA World Cup matches. Governor Josh Shapiro formally advocated for the city, noting that Philadelphia and the Commonwealth would see "substantial economic benefits" from hosting. State Representative Malcolm Kenyatta expressed pride in the city's advancement, calling the next convention a chance to "turn the page on the most divisive and destructive presidency in American history."
