AI Experts Warn of Human Extinction Risks
Former Google DeepMind researcher Alex Turner warns that artificial intelligence has a one-in-three chance of killing humanity within ten years.
Former Google DeepMind researcher Alex Turner warned at the NDTV World Summit that artificial intelligence carries a one-in-three chance of killing humanity within the next decade. Turner argued that the competitive race between private companies to develop powerful AI is outpacing the scientific ability to control or understand the technology's behavior.
Turner highlighted the risk of an intelligence explosion, where AI systems could become self-regulatory and improve independently of human input. These warnings align with previous cautions from Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, who stated AI could cause a billion deaths without human intervention, and Anthropic whistleblower Jacob Coxon, who described the technology as a danger that could end humanity.
Donald Trump dismissed these catastrophic predictions. He asserted that the United States is leading China in AI development and maintained that such outcomes will not occur.
