Trump Fast-Tracks Reflecting Pool Renovation Leading to Structural Failure

President Donald Trump fast-tracked the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool renovation, leading to structural failures and the wrongful indictment of citizens before charges were dropped.

President Donald Trump ordered a fast-tracked renovation of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool to ensure completion by July 4. To meet this deadline, the administration bypassed standard National Park Service reviews and awarded a multimillion-dollar no-bid contract to Atlantic Industrial Coatings for a blue polyurea liner.

The liner soon peeled and developed holes. The administration and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum attributed the damage to vandals using chemicals and knives, resulting in the felony indictment of former Olympian David Hearn and three other individuals.

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro dropped all charges after court filings revealed the damage resulted from a flawed, rushed installation. Pirro accused the Interior Department of withholding evidence regarding the contractor's failures. In response, Trump criticized Pirro on social media and by phone, claiming she folded like an umbrella.

The pool remains closed for emergency repairs. Congressional Democrats have launched investigations into the mismanagement of the project.
