Nigeria Expands Regional Connectivity via New Dual Carriageway

Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga led an inspection of the Makurdi–Otukpo–Obolo-Affor–Enugu dual carriageway in Benue State to evaluate the progress of a project linking Nigeria's North Central and South East regions. Onanuga credited President Bola Tinubu for expanding national infrastructure and noted that the expressway has already halved travel time between Makurdi and Otukpo, reducing the trip from three hours to approximately one and a half hours.

Federal Controller of Works for Benue State Mukaila Danladi reported that the 258-kilometre project traverses Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, and Enugu states. Construction has reached 86 kilometres of binder course on both carriageways, though the rainy season has caused some delays.

The project is being executed by China Harbour Engineering Company and is funded through a combination of Federal Government resources and a loan from the Export–Import Bank of China. The dual carriageway is expected to be completed by December 2027 within its 48-month contract period.
