Aruna Miller Urges Voting to Hold Trump Administration Accountable

Maryland Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller urged immigrant communities to vote in the 2026 midterms to counter the Trump-Vance administration's tariff and immigration policies.

Maryland Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller urged eligible Americans, particularly immigrant communities, to vote in the 2026 US midterm elections to hold the Trump-Vance administration accountable. Speaking on Election Day, Miller described the contests for the US Senate and House of Representatives as an opportunity to create a "firewall against Donald Trump."

Miller cited several drivers of voter anxiety, including the loss of 31,000 federal jobs in Maryland, rising fuel prices, and the federal government's immigration and tariff policies. She argued that tariffs act as a tax passed down to consumers rather than a cost paid by other countries.

To counter federal policies, Miller highlighted Maryland's state-level protections for immigrants, such as the establishment of an Office of Immigrant Affairs and a ban on Section 287(g) agreements, which prevent local police from performing federal immigration enforcement. She also promoted the Moore administration's Enough Act aimed at combating child poverty.
