Swiss President Guy Parmelin Visits India to Boost Trade

Swiss President Guy Parmelin began a three-day state visit to India on October 5 to strengthen economic ties and commemorate the India-EFTA trade agreement.

Swiss President Guy Parmelin arrived in New Delhi on October 5, 2026, for a three-day state visit aimed at strengthening economic and strategic ties with India. Invited by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Parmelin is leading a delegation of senior officials and business leaders to discuss investment, science, technology, innovation, and mobility.

The itinerary includes a delegation-level meeting with Prime Minister Modi on October 5 and a meeting with President Droupadi Murmu, who will host an official banquet in Parmelin's honor. The Swiss President is also scheduled to call on External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. On October 6, Parmelin will visit Noida International Airport to inspect the terminal and cargo facilities; the airport was developed by Yamuna International Airport Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of the Swiss-based Zurich Airport International AG.

A central highlight of the visit is the second India-EFTA Prosperity Summit on October 7. This event marks the first anniversary of the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA). Switzerland currently serves as India's largest trading and investment partner among the European Free Trade Association members. This trip marks Parmelin's second visit to India in 2026, following his attendance at the AI Impact Summit in February.
