GOP lawmakers from ranching states and industry groups, including the National Cattlemen's Beef Association, argue that flooding the market with cheap imports undercuts domestic producers. While the White House defends the beef imports as a temporary measure to lower retail prices, critics argue the plan betrays farmers struggling with economic instability.
