Reports from The Verge, Newsweek, and The Independent indicate that Google LLC is blocking or throttling AI-generated summaries for queries regarding President Donald Trump's cognitive decline and dementia. While searches for similar mental health topics concerning former presidents Joe Biden, Barack Obama, and George W. Bush trigger AI Overviews and AI Mode responses, queries about Donald Trump often return only traditional news links or a message stating the AI Overview is unavailable.

Google spokesperson Davis Thompson denied any intentional bias or blocking, stating that the tools do not provide responses to every query. The company noted that its systems automatically determine where an AI response is useful, though these determinations are not always consistent. This technical discrepancy follows a recent speech by Donald Trump in Quantico that renewed public discussion regarding his mental acuity.

The controversy emerges amid a series of interactions between the company and the Trump administration. Google CEO Sundar Pichai recently praised the president's AI Action Plan during a White House dinner. Additionally, Google-owned YouTube agreed to pay $24.5 million to settle a lawsuit filed by Donald Trump regarding his account suspension after the January 6 Capitol riot.
