Democrats Seek Probe Into Taxpayer-Funded Trump Campaign Ads

Representatives Jamie Raskin and George Whitesides requested federal investigations into government-funded television ads promoting President Donald Trump ahead of the midterm elections.

Congressional Democrats Jamie Raskin and George Whitesides have requested investigations by the Government Accountability Office and the Office of Special Counsel into television advertisements promoting Donald Trump. The ads, which began airing on September 23, highlight administration policies and include a commercial featuring the song "Love Me" and praise from UFC president Dana White.

Critics describe the commercials as "desperate pre-election propaganda" and allege they violate the Hatch Act, the Anti-Deficiency Act, and spending provisions that prohibit the use of public funds for publicity. The Wall Street Journal estimated the cost of the campaign at approximately $1.7 million, claiming the money was drawn from funds appropriated to Customs and Border Protection.

The White House defended the ads as "educational and unapologetically patriotic" public service announcements, a position supported by FCC Chair Brendan Carr. While some Republicans questioned the spending, Donald Trump stated he would "gladly pay the money" if the advertisements were determined to be improper.
